Crown secures double accolade
Tuesday, 8th November 2005
The Crown at Whitebrook's wine list acknowledged
as one of the top three in the UK at Condé Nast Johansens
Awards for Excellence plus featured in Top 100
UK Restaurant Wine lists in the UK.
The Crown at Whitebrook in Monmouth has been recognised
at the The Condé Nast Johansens Awards for
Excellence for its exquisite wine offering, alongside
being featured in a new guide launched this autumn
that rates restaurants on the quality of its wine
offering.
The Crown was shortlisted to a final three for Wine
List of the Year in the Country House category with
judges examining the list for its quality, value
and overall impression.
Condé Nast Johansens is a complete and comprehensive
guide to annually inspected, independently owned
accommodation and meetings venues throughout Great
Britain, Europe and the Americas. The 4 star
restaurant is also featured in The Top 100 Restaurant
Wine Lists in the UK, a new guide that takes a close
look at UK wine lists naming the Crown at Whitebrook
as amongst the best in the UK. |
|
| The
guide is the first ever to rate UK restaurants solely
on the merits on their wine list and evaluates quality,
value and overall impression. Designed to take the stress
out of selecting wines when hosting a meal, the guide
commended the Crown on their extensive and carefully
considered list whose easy reading descriptions make
the task of selecting a wine an easy and pleasurable
experience.
Jonathan Davies, Director of the Crown at Whitebrook, said:
"We work extremely hard at the Crown to ensure
that every detail is taken care of long before a customer
even walks through our door. The wine list is constantly
under review with new bins added on a regular basis
in conjunction with new finds and new menus."
"We are naturally honoured that both Condé Nast
and the guide have recognised our efforts and hope that
our new extended wine list will go even further to please
our diners."
"We believe strongly that the wine that is chosen
to accompany a meal can greatly enhance the dishes served
and as such we are launching a series of Wine and Dine
evenings that feature a set five to seven course menu
where we select the wine for each dish served for the
ultimate gourmet experience!"
In compiling the Top 100, editor Neville Blech put the
submitted wine lists under the microscope. Wine quality
across the lists was determined from the star rating
system in Wine behind the label 2006, an annual global
guide to quality wine producers, from the same Williamson
Moore Publishing stable, now in its fourth year of publication.
Philip Williamson and David Moore, its authors have
helped to edit the Top 100 and each entry contains a
personal recommendation from them, as well as Neville.
In his assessments, Blech utilises his expertise in
matching fine wine and food, plus his skill in compiling
wine lists.
