THE
CROWN AWARDED MICHELIN STAR
Saturday, 21st April 2007
The award is a fulfilment of the dream of Director
Jonathan Davies, who together with Chef James Sommerin
who joined the restaurant six years ago, has been
on a quest to achieve the coveted prize since taking
over the restaurant in December 2003.
The Michelin Star is awarded according to five criteria.
These include the quality of the ingredients, the
skill in preparing them and in combining flavours,
the level of creativity, the consistency of culinary
standards and value for money. An anonymous visit
is undertaken by an inspector to judge the real
quality of an establishment’s products and
services.
The Michelin Guide 2007 has described the Crown
at Whitebrook as "Attentively run, with a
modern feel, in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Local produce given an inventive, modish edge. Very
comfy executive rooms with immense style."
Jonathan Davies commented: “This award is
a tribute to Michael Obray and James Sommerin of
the Crown and their vision and commitment to achieving
this dream since the very beginning. We had absolute
confidence in our team and their ability to deliver
is evident through what we have achieved to date.” |

James
Sommerin, who has been Head Chef at the restaurant for
four years, said: “This is a dream come true,
and it means so much to us – both individually
and as a team. It is reflective of the quality of our
menu, which has taken time and effort to reach perfection.”
Michael Obray, who took the helm as General Manager
in December 2005, added: “Our philosophy at The
Crown has always been to work to achieve the highest
standards and be true to what we do best in terms of
pleasing our guests. Although awards are wonderful to
aspire to, we do not operate specifically to achieve
these, but look to achieve consistency and excellence
on a daily basis."
“Winning such a prestigious award is testament
to the commitment and dedication of the team here and
the effort which has been made over the years to achieve
the much sought after Michelin Star.”
The Crown at Whitebrook brigade under the leadership
of James Sommerin (Chef De Cuisine) is Richard Broughton
(Sous Chef) and Michael Hendry (Chef De Partie). They are
supported front of house by General Manager Michael
Obray, Vickie Smith (Restaurant Supervisor) and Alex
Pastrav (Sommelier). As well as offering the finest
cuisine, the Crown at Whitebrook also offers exquisite
accommodation with eight luxury bedrooms.
The Crown at Whitebrook, which already holds two AA
Rosettes and features a star in Egon Ronay’s 2006
guide to the best restaurant and gastro pubs in the
UK, joins Plas Bodegroes in Pwllheli as the only other
restaurant in Wales to be awarded the Michelin Star. |
