Michelin star South Wales restaurant forges unique link with Ryder Cup
host Resort to create The Crown at Celtic Manor

THE Crown at Whitebrook has forged an unique link with the exclusive five star Celtic Manor Resort, host of the 2010 Ryder Cup, to create an elite fine dining experience, The Crown at Celtic Manor.

The Crown at Whitebrook, in Monmouthshire, under its Michelin star chef James Sommerin, and the internationally-renowned Celtic Manor Resort, in Newport,  are working together to create the brand new  five star restaurant.

Award-winning James Sommerin, who achieved the coveted accolade in 2007, will be executive chef for both restaurants creating separate distinctive menus for each establishment.

General Manager at The Crown, David Hennigan, who has worked extensively in Michelin star and Bib Gourmand establishments during his career, will oversee front of house operations at both restaurants.

The Crown at Whitebrook Chief Executive, Michael Davies, said: “This ground-breaking link between the five star Celtic Manor Resort, host of the Ryder Cup 2010 and the Michelin star Crown at Whitebrook,  is truly sensational as it brings together two of the very best establishments in the UK and both leaders in their field.

“We are all extremely excited and thrilled at the prospect of delivering the excellence of the unique, fine dining experience we have created at The Crown at Whitebrook to the Celtic Manor Resort and can’t wait to get the new restaurant open.”

Dylan Matthews, Chief Executive of The Celtic Manor Resort, has been closely involved, along with his senior management team, in helping make the exciting partnership happen.

He said: “This is a very exciting development for both The Celtic Manor Resort and The Crown.  As two quality establishments we will be combining the different skills and areas of expertise of our staff to create a truly excellent gastronomic experience that both our hotel guests and people within the local area can enjoy.”

The Crown at Whitebrook currently has 30 covers. The 54-cover Crown at Celtic Manor is due to open on Good Friday, March 21.

Notes:
Established in 1971 The Crown at Whitebrook, near Monmouth in the Wye Valley, was one of Wales’ very first restaurants with rooms – it has eight. The thirty cover restaurant is currently one of just two in Wales to have a coveted

Michelin star. The star was awarded for the first time to the Crown in 2007. The Crown, bought in the Spring of 2004, is owned by a private family company.

The philosophy of The Crown is one of Total Dining Experience led by the quality of food created by Welsh-born Executive Chef James Sommerin and his award winning team.

The Crown has an extensive wine list which was voted by Johansens as one of the top three in Britain in 2007. The Crown has over 250 wines on its list categorised by grape variety.
